Dr. Malachy Ifeanyi Okeke jobber med sitt postdoktorat ved GenØk – Senter for biosikkerhet. Han fikk sin doktorgrad fra Universitetet i Tromsø i 2007, hvor han karakteriserte rekombinante virus fra in vitro rekombinasjon mellom transgene of villtype orthopoxvirus. Den nåværende forskningen til Dr. Okeke fokuserer på virus-virus mellom transgene og villtype orthopoxvirusog deres mammalske verter. Forskningen fokuserer også på hvordan disse interaksjonene kan resultere i potensielle problemer med biosikkerhet, spesielt om transgene poxvirus brukes som vaksine for humane- og dyresykdommer.
